Pure pleasure on Saturday morning as we embarked on the final workshop in our current Block of the Month series. Each person came in grinning from ear to ear as they flourished their now-together-if-not-completely-finished quilt, spread out on the tables at the Rural Arts Centre, they looked magnificent!
And every bit as good as the quilts, was the elation at reaching this point; the need to share the moment had seen complete strangers grasped by the metaphorical lapels and their admiration demanded.
I’m still continually amazed by this magic; out of our stitching, snipping, unpicking, re-stitching emerges an item that brings such joy ~ if to the recipient, that is secondary ~ but to ourselves. This is surely what the researchers from Glasgow University cottoned onto when their recent studies found quilting and patchwork a hobby second to none when it comes to engendering feelings of wellbeing.
Sewing definitely mends the soul!
